Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) Services at The Mediation Table

Calm conversations.  Clear outcomes.

At The Mediation Table, we offer accredited Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) services to help families resolve conflict and make parenting arrangements after separation or divorce.

As a registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDR) service, we are committed to supporting parents and caregivers to find safe, workable solutions through child-focused, trauma-informed mediation.

Our FDR process is child-centred, trauma-informed, and grounded in clear communication and emotional safety. We help families untangle conflict, clarify needs, and move forward with dignity and care.

At The Mediation Table, we make it a priority to ensure your children are never overlooked—their safety, stability, and best interests remain central to every discussion and decision made.

Whether you're facing high-conflict co-parenting issues or need help creating a Parenting Plan, we are here to guide you through the process with sensitivity and professionalism.

What is Family Dispute Resolution?

Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) is a form of mediation required under Australian family law before applying to the court for parenting orders.  FDR is confidential, voluntary, and focuses on the best interests of the child.  It empowers parents to co-create agreements outside of court, saving time, money, and emotional stress.

It provides a safe, structured environment to resolve issues related to:

  • Parenting arrangements

  • Time-sharing and communication

  • Decision-making responsibilities

  • Rebuilding respectful communication

  • Child support and financial arrangements (when appropriate)

Common Topics Discussed in FDR

  • Living arrangements after separation

  • Schooling, medical care, and extracurricular activities

  • Communication between parents

  • Introduction of new partners

  • Holiday and travel planning

  • Family violence concerns and protective strategies

The Mediation Process

Our FDR process includes:

Intake & Assessment

Each party meets individually with the FDRP to discuss concerns, assess suitability for mediation, and ensure safety.

Joint Mediation

Structured, respectful conversation guided by your FDRP.

Parenting Plans or Agreements

Written documents you can use in day-to-day life or take to legal advisors if needed.
