Family Therapy

Family therapy offers a unique and holistic approach to mental health support, distinct from individual therapy models. It's inclusive, considering the individual within the context of their family and other key relationships (their systems). Addressing mental health struggles like depression, anxiety, anger, and sadness requires understanding interaction patterns, system dynamics, and the individual's environment—both internal and external (work, social, family).

Family Therapy is perfect for:

  • Strengthen Family Bonds: Build closer, more peaceful, and connective relationships within your family.

  • Gain Self-Awareness: Understand the underlying reasons for your family's patterns of behavior.

  • Discover Strengths & Create Change: Identify your family's strengths and learn how to make positive changes.

  • Express Difficult Emotions: Create a safe space to express challenging thoughts and emotions.

  • Reduce Conflict: Find solutions to stop yelling and other harmful communication patterns.

  • Address Mental Health Concerns: Effectively address issues such as depression, anxiety, grief, anger, conflict, marital problems, substance use, and other mental health challenges within the family system.

  • Improve Communication: Enhance understanding and communication between parents and children, teenagers, intimate partners, or extended family members.

let’s talk results

  • My Approach to Therapy:

    • Systemic Inclusion: I believe in the importance of your entire system and welcome anyone relevant to your life into the session.

    • Healthy Boundaries: We will collaboratively explore and define healthy boundaries for your relationships and well-being.

    • Presence and Resilience: I will guide you in developing the ability to be present and centered, even during times of fear or crisis.

    • Acceptance and Understanding: We will work towards accepting the dynamics of your family system and understanding their impact on you.

    • Exploration of Family Dynamics: We will explore your family's interactional and intergenerational patterns.

    • Pattern Recognition and Change: We will identify how these generational dynamics are being replicated in your life and develop strategies to break unhelpful patterns, both within and outside of sessions.

    • Healing and Well-being: my goal is to support you in healing from mental, emotional, and psychological challenges that are impacting your life.

  • Understanding Family Therapy:

    • A Different Lens: Family therapy offers a unique perspective on treatment compared to individual therapy, considering the interconnectedness of family members.

    • Emotional Challenges: The process can be emotionally challenging as individual perceptions may shift, leading to uncomfortable feelings.

    • Disengagement and Denial: Some family members may disengage from the process or deny the existence of unhealthy patterns.

    • No Quick Fixes: Family therapy doesn't magically erase problems, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach.

    • Managing Dynamics: Balancing the needs of multiple family members in a session can be complex. At times, an individual may feel overlooked. Open communication about these feelings is crucial for the therapeutic relationship.

    • Active Participation: Successful family therapy requires active participation from all members. Results may be disappointing if you expect the therapist to do all the work.

    • Painful Exploration: Exploring family issues and generational patterns can be painful. Family members may process these emotions differently.

    • The Importance of Time: Meaningful change in family dynamics takes time and consistent effort.
